Big Garden Birdwatch
Between 29th and 31st January, you can take part in the Big Garden Birdwatch! It’s the world’s largest bird survey and is a fantastic way to help the RSPB track where specific species of birds live. As well as this, it helps them to spot any problems that might be facing birds and, most importantly, it helps them to start to put these problems right. Have a look at the RSPB website to find out all of the information you need (click here!) for a fun-filled hour in the great outdoors (safely, of course!)
Joe Wicks’ YouTube channel (click here!) has lots of brilliant activities. All of his ‘PE with Joe’ videos from the first lockdown are on there, plus he has filmed ‘Kids Workouts to do at Home’ more recently. From Monday, he will also be doing live workouts every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 9am, so tune in to each of those to wake your body up!
You could also have a go at some of these 60 second personal challenges - maybe try one challenge a day. Don't worry if you don't have any sports equipment - there are suggestions for household items you could use instead. You have 3 chances to get your best score in 60 seconds. Record your results in a table like the one on page 3 of this document. Have fun!
Starting on Monday 11th January, each week day on CBBC, three hours of primary school programming will start from 9am. This will include BBC Live Lessons and BBC Bitesize Daily, as well as other educational programming such as Our School and Celebrity Supply Teacher and much loved titles such as Horrible Histories, Art Ninja and Operation Ouch.
Whilst we don't recommend you spend the entire morning watching TV(!), it's a good idea to have a little brain break and to watch some of these programmes that interest you.
As well as this, the BBC are showing episodes of a programme called 'The Planets' each weekday (Monday 11th January - Friday 15th January) from 2-3pm. Each programme focuses on different planets of our solar system. Whilst this programme isn't especially aimed at Year 5 children, it it SO interesting and really helps to bring our topic all about the solar system to life! Give it a watch this week and don't worry if you miss it, all of the episodes are available on BBC iPlayer (click here to watch).
