Monday 18th January-

This morning we are learning a new sound! Watch this video clip to find out which sound we are learning today.

Now that you have watched it, we would like you to have a go at an activity using your new sound ‘qu’. Using the phonics flashcards in your pack, we would like you to make some words containing the ‘qu’ sound. We want you to make the words quick (qu-i-ck), quit (qu-i-t) and the nonsense word quim (qu-i-m) please. If you are unsure of how to use your flashcards to make words then watch this video clip and it will hopefully help you out.

Now that you have seen the video clip is it time for your activity. Today we would like you to become detectives and have a look in your favourite story book to see if you can spot the ‘ch’ sound anywhere. Perhaps you could write down the words you find? Or write down how many words you find? A grown up could even help you make a tally chart to record how many words you find.

We want you to make the words ship (sh-i-p), shed (sh-e-d) and the nonsense word shim (sh-i-m) please. If your child finds this easy, have a go at writing a list of other words that have the ‘sh’ sound in them. DONT FORGET TO USE YOUR MARVIN LETTERS!

Friday 22nd January-

Today we would like you to recap all of the phase 2 'speedy sounds' using your flash cards, just like in the video of Mr Thomas below. Feel free to pause the video at anytime. You are also now able to  include the Phase 3 sounds we have learnt this week 'qu', 'ch', 'sh' and 'th'. Please let us know how many you get right, we would love to hear.

Next we would like you to watch and join in with the tricky word song (these are words that can not be sounded out) link is provided below. Sorry adults it is very catchy!!! The children are already very familiar with the Phase 2 words but have not yet been taught the Phase 3 words, do please spend some time looking at these togeather.

We would love to see any photographs or video clips of your daily phonics sessions at home.
