Let’s Celebrate World Book Day
This year we will be completing lots of fun activities in school to celebrate World Book Day. We would love for you to get involved and have a go at the activities listed below.
Activity 1 – ‘The Bear and the Piano’
This year the whole school will be reading ‘ The Bear and the Piano’. It has some beautiful themes of
friendship, loyalty, aspirations, determination and perseverance. We would like you to share this
book with you child and talk about the story (see powerpoint below). You can use the
‘Reading’ section of the Home Learning as help on what questions you could ask.
After you have finished you could get your child to write/draw about their favourite part of the story and why. You could write in sentences, draw a picture and label it or draw a picture and explain it to an adult.
Activity 2 – Share a Story
Go to the World Book Day Website and take a look at the ‘Share a Story’ Corner. There are lots of fun books to share with your child.
Or if you wish you can share your child's favourite book from home.
We would love to see photos or videos of the children reading and looking at it. They could even tell us why it is their favourite and recommend it to a friend.
Activity 3 – Recreate a front cover
We would love for you to recreate a book front cover of your choice. You can do this how you like; paint, pencils, collage, Lego, junk modelling. It’s up to you! We have included a Powerpoint (see below) with some ideas to help you.
Activity 4 – Children's Bookshow Digital Festival
On Friday 5th March, the Key Worker children will be taking part in a live web session alongside other schools. You can watch and join along from home. Just follow this link.
