This week we are looking at writing riddles!

Thursday - Watch the BBC Bitesize clip below to find out more about riddle writing!

Have a look at the following riddle all about a penguin. Can you identify which things (features) need to be included when you write a riddle?
Did you find all of the features? Have a look below to see if you did.

Friday - Animal research

We are going to be writing a riddle about an animal and you can choose which animal you want to do. To get ready to write your riddle, you need to do some research on your animal, so that you can write lots of clues about it. Here are some questions to think about when you are doing your research.

  • Where does it live? Does it live in a warm, or cold place? What is its habitat? E.g. rainforest, ocean, wood, desert etc.
  • Does it live on land, or water?
  • What do they eat?
  • What do they look like? Do they have any special features? E.g polar bears have 2 layers of fur.
  • Are there different types of your animal? E.g Emperor penguins, Rockhopper penguins and King penguins.
  • Can you think of any other interesting facts about your animal?

Can you write your animal riddle in your best handwriting? Don't forget to use the riddle writing checklist to help you!

Tuesday - Fruit riddle

Can you write a riddle about a piece of fruit? Have a look at this one about a pineapple to help you. You could also write one about a pineapple, or choose a fruit of your own. We look forward to seeing them!

Use these spelling activities to help you practise the Year 2 spellings below, or spellings that Miss Longman and Mrs Bayes have given you.
