This week we are looking at instruction writing.

 

Thursday - Have a look at this BBC Bitesize video explaining how to write instructions. After watching the video, can you write down any features that you need to include when writing instructions?

 

Have a look at the following example for writing instructions on how to make a cucumber sandwich. Look at the list below the picture to find out what the numbers mean.

When writing instructions, you need to try and include the following features...

1. A title.

2. An opening question.

3. You will need ( including commas in a list )

4. Numbers for each instruction.

5. Time words:First, Next, Then After that, Finally.

6. Bossy verbs (imperative verbs): chop, put, eat, place, slice.

7. Adjectives.

 

 

Friday - Can you write a set of instructions to make a jam sandwich? Use the pictures below to help you and try to include the following features:

 

1. A title.

2. An opening question.

3. You will need ( including commas in a list )

4. Numbers for each instruction.

5. Time words:First, Next, Then After that, Finally.

6. Bossy verbs (imperative verbs): chop, put, eat, place, slice.

7. Adjectives.

 

Monday - Can you write a set of instructions for how to clean your teeth? Use the pictures below and don’t forget to include the following features:

 

1. A title.

2. An opening question.

3. You will need ( including commas in a list )

4. Numbers for each instruction.

5. Time words:First, Next, Then After that, Finally.

6. Bossy verbs (imperative verbs): chop, put, eat, place, slice.

7. Adjectives.

Challenge - Can you include an ly adverb? For example:

Next carefully brush the sides of your hard, shiny teeth. 

Tuesday - Can you write a set of instructions for getting ready in the morning? Don’t forget to use your instruction checklist and use the pictures below to help you. If you do anything else in the morning, don’t forget to add that in too!
