Writing and Spelling

These are the tricky words that year 1 children need to learn to spell. They are words that cannot be sounded out using phonics so will need lots of practise!

Retell your favourite story!

Can you pick your favourite story and write sentences to retell it.

Clever writers will remember to use:

  • capital letters
  • full stops
  • finger spaces
  • adjectives

Don't forget to say your sentence before you write it and check it afterwards!

Read the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. What happened in the story? What characters can you remember? Can you use any adjectives to describe the beanstalk and the giant?

Once you have read the story, look at the powerpoint slides and have a go at retelling the story, using the pictures and the checklist provided.

Happy writing!

Little Red Riding Hood

This week in English we are reading the story of Little Red Riding Hood. Below is a link to the version we are reading in class. Once you have watched the story, talk about what happened and what characters were in the story.

Then can you create a word bank of all the adjectives you can think of to describe the different characters.

Once you have done this, take a look at the powerpoint slides, each slide is for a different day, so please only complete one slide at a time. Remember to use everything in your checklist when you are writing your sentences:)
