Church of England First School

Year 1

Letter to Year 1 22.02.2021

Hello Year 1,

We hope you have had a lovely half term and are looking forward to completing your home learning. Our Topic this half term is ‘Once Upon a Time’. We will be looking at different fairy tales, growing our own beanstalks and learning about knights and castles.

We have included lots of English, Maths and Topic activities for you to complete. Over the next two weeks we would like you to pick a screen-free day; this means learning with no TV, iPads or computers. Please look at the ‘No Screens Day’ section on the main Home Learning Page for some great ideas on how you can spend you screen-free day and make sure you send us photos of what you have done labelled screen free day.

In addition, World Book Day is on the 4 th March and so we are celebrating as a school. We have uploaded a section in the ‘English’ button with some great activities for you to share with your child at home.

The key worker children and children learning from home have been producing the most amazing work and reading lots; we are so proud of every one of you! Keep up this amazing learning and we look forward to receiving more work from you.

Stay Safe,
Miss Eden, Miss Macleod and all the Year 1 team

Letter to Year 1 03.02.2021

Hello Year 1,

How are we nearly at the end of the half term, the time has just flown by! We hope you and your families are safe and well and are enjoying spending time together.

We have continued to receive some lovely work for you from a range of different subjects. It’s fantastic to see how well you have adjusted to home learning and are still continuing to try your absolute best. But please remember that learning isn't just what we are sending you. Playing a game, puzzles, baking, cycling or scooting, drawing, cutting and sticking and colouring are all learning too.

Another polite reminder to keep reading as much as you can. This is for all children (those at home and those attending school). Reading is so important in Year 1 and will help them in all subjects. Lots of you are accessing online reading and completing the quizzes so well done! We have included some more links on Seesaw about other websites you can use to access reading activities. In addition there is a new reading section on the Home Learning which will give you some guidance and help with reading at home.

The learning for this week is to run from Wednesday 3rd to Thursday 11th February. This is due to Friday 12th being a INSET day. New learning will then be available after half term from Monday 22nd February every fortnight.

Keep up the fantastic work Year 1 and we look forward to seeing what you have been up to.

Letter to Year 1 20.01.2021

Hello Year 1,

What fantastic start you have all had to your home learning and it has been lovely to see some of you in school as well. We have now uploaded some more work for you to complete over the next two weeks. We are still focusing on our topic ‘Farm Time Warp’ and so a lot of the activities are linked to this.

We have included a possible timetable for you to follow. This is by no means set in stone and you can timetable your day as you wish, however this is just a helpful guidance for you all. This can be found below. In addition, we would like to mention timing. This work is to be completed over two weeks and should be completed with this in mind. We have put hints next to some activities regarding how long this should take the children to complete.

We have loved receiving emails from you all with work that you have done at home; it is lovely to see you concentrating and enjoying your learning. A reminder that we do not require a daily email of work you have completed, just evidence of two pieces of work a week. You can either send this in one email a week or two separate emails. Of course, if you have any questions do not hesitate to contact us on our school email or on SeeSaw.

We hope you are all safe and well. Remember you are all doing amazing!

Letter to Year 1 06.01.2021

Hello Year 1 and Parents/Carers,

We hope that you have had a lovely Christmas and New Year. We are very sad that we won’t be seeing you in school for a little bit and are already looking forward to having you back.

Our topic this half term is ‘Farm Time Warp’. We will be looking at lots of stories linked to farms, learning about different animals and thinking about the history of farming. We have uploaded lots of lovely activities to get you started and will be updating these every two weeks on a Wednesday. A quick reminder that the online reading books on Rising Stars are still available to you.

We would love to see some of the work you have been doing so please send us two pieces of work each week via our Year 1 email, [email protected]. Of course, if you have any questions or need a little guidance please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Miss Eden will be responding to 1VE emails and comments and Miss Macleod will be running 1PB initially. We will also be working together on providing home learning and ensuring this is consistent with what is being taught in school; hopefully guaranteeing all children have access to the same quality learning.

We understand this is a strange time but remember you are all AMAZING. Keep up the fantastic work and we look forward to hearing from you very soon.

Miss Eden, Mrs Burman, Miss Macleod and all the Year 1 Team.
