Authors of the Term

Autumn 2

Autumn 1

2022-2023

Autumn 1

Our Author of the term in Autumn 1 was the fantastic Joseph Coelho! As we mentioned in a letter in the summer term, Joseph is the new Waterstone's Children's laureate.

We shared his exciting poetry and stories with your children as part of our class daily story times and in some of our assemblies! We kicked off our Autumn Term with a ‘whole school book’ and chose ‘My Beautiful Voice’. All the children in school have read and discussed this book and have produced some beautiful artwork thinking all about the important messages of perseverance, friendship, respect and encouragement; all of which tie in with our own school values. You can see our fabulous artwork in a magnificent whole school display outside Mr Riddlinton’s office. Please check your Parent Pay letter to see what books we will be sharing in school. Perhaps you'd also like to share some of these, as well as Joseph's online video clips of him reading his poetry, at home.

Autumn 2

Reading Club all thoroughly enjoyed reading and sharing some of Rachel Bright's fantastic books. No matter what book they had been reading they all gave them a 10/10 for enjoyment. They also managed to spot how the stories demonstrate our values of caring, friendship, forgiveness and respect! They were having so much fun, we were late going home!

Spring 1

Our Author of the term in Spring 1 was the fabulous poet and non-fiction writer James Carter! We will be sharing his brilliant books and poems with your children as part of our class daily story times and in some of our assemblies! James is a self proclaimed ‘word nerd’ and believes that poetry is the most fun you can have with words! His poetry and books capture the attention and imagination of young people of all ages and he frequently publishes some of his poetry on his website which you can access for free here: http://www.jamescarterpoet.co.uk/poems.html so do check it out.

Please see our Reading news and Events section at the bottom of the page for our previous authors this year!

Spring 2

Our Author of the term for Spring 2 was the hilariously funny Nadia Shireen! We shared her fabulous stories as part of our class daily story times and in some of our assemblies! She is a fantastic author writing books and stories that have a deeper message whilst being hilariously funny. She writes for all ages and all children and even some of us parents can relate to her stories. These books are particularly good if your child is sometimes reluctant to read, as the laugh out loud moments will leave them wanting more.

Summer 1

Our Author of the term was the best-selling author, Tom Percival.  He is well known for his uplifting stories that celebrate diversity, encourage children to be themselves and support them with a whole host of challenges they may face as they grow up. Children of all ages can relate to and enjoy his stories and he writes everything from picture books to chapter books. He is most definitely one to add to the bookshelf!

Summer 1

Our Author of the term was the incredible Charlotte Guillain and we shared her captivating books as part of our class daily story times. She is well known for her hilarious picture books such as spaghetti with the yeti, which was nominated for a Roald Dahl ‘Funny Award’, as well as her spectacular non-fiction books such as ‘street beneath my feet’, which was selected by the Guardian as a ‘modern classic’. The non-fiction books she writes are fascinating as well as breath-taking and make brilliant birthday and Christmas gifts.
