St Richard's

Church of England First School

PHSE

It is our intent to equip pupils with the knowledge, skills and attributes to keep healthy and safe and prepare them for life and work. This will be achieved through discrete lessons that cover the three core themes of: Relationships, Health and Well-being and Living in the Wider World.

Teaching of the PSHE curriculum aims to develop skills, knowledge and attributes such as resilience, self-esteem, respect, risk-management, team work and critical thinking with the aim of preparing children for an optimistic experience of life both now and in the future. In line with our Christian values and curriculum drivers, it should give children a positive sense of place as a valued member of their community at school, at home and as a citizen of the wider world.

The curriculum also aims to prepare children for their lives beyond St Richards school gates in our core theme ‘Living in the Wider World’. Through the economic and career aspects of the curriculum, we aim to provide children with knowledge, the skills to make positive choices and self-belief to achieve their aspirations. Children will also learn about their rights and responsibilities, caring for the environment, belonging and diversity in the wider world. Through these topics, we strive to give pupils the skills, knowledge and self-esteem that will serve them for many years to come.

Living in the Wider World

As part of living in the wider world in PSHE, we had a visit from Rob Jensen (Education Officer) from Severn Trent Water to teach us about Hydration and Plastics.

During the assembly we learnt about:

  • The importance of staying hydrated for the human body
  • How to reduce single use plastic pollution
  • The journey of 4 plastic bottles
